Preparation of Leadership Personnel, Doctoral Program in Special Education (PLP)
George Mason University, a rapidly growing doctoral institution in the greater Washington, DC area, is developing a new, more intensive doctoral program in special education. This project is providing intensive, high-quality, comprehensive doctoral-level training in special education over a four-year period. This program emphasizes the balance among teaching, research, and leadership objectives, and provides intensive, high quality training in all areas, so that program graduates will possess the competencies to enable them to be successful leaders in special education. A unique feature of this program -- helped in part by George Mason's location in the Washington, DC area -- is the opportunity for internships in teacher education, research, and leadership in national educational, governmental and service organizations. Students will work closely with faculty who are actively engaged in state-of-the-art teacher education, research, and leadership activities throughout the program.
