The Virginia Department of Education uses part of the Federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) funds for a system that provides support to local educational agencies for professional development. The Training and Technical Assistance Centers (T/TACs) are located in the eight regions represented by school division superintendents throughout the state.
The mission of Virginia's T/TAC system is to improve educational opportunities and contribute to the success of children and youth with disabilities (birth - 22 years). The T/TACs provide quality training and technical assistance in response to local, regional, and state needs. Their services increase the capacity of school personnel, service providers, and families to meet the needs of children and youth with disabilities.
As part of the effort to provide technical assistance to teachers on differentiating instruction for all students, grades K through 12, the T/TACs, in collaboration with school personnel throughout the Commonwealth, have developed the SOL Enhanced Scope and Sequence PLUS lesson plans, an invaluable resource available on the T/TAC Online website (www.ttaconline.org).
SOL Enhanced PLUS is a searchable database of the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Enhanced Scope and Sequence PLUS lesson plans. This resource has been created to provide Virginia teachers with a tool to deliver SOL-based instruction to a diverse population of learners. Curricular and instructional information is available for Mathematics, English, History/Social Studies, and Science.
The lesson plans and activities are not only aligned with the SOL, they feature "specific options for differentiating this lesson" including:
