Presentation Description
In October, we are giving a presentation on how teachers can turn trash into treasure for under $5 for students with disabilities. This is part two of a very successful presentation last year. During the presentation we will cover different curricular areas, such as history, literacy, science, and handwriting, and will address different disability areas, such as visual impairments, learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, and cognitive delays. Participants will learn how to adapt a math book to engage all types of learners, or how to make an array of sensory toys from items already in your classroom closet. This is a fun and creative presentation for those who are frustrated at their school's lack of funding for assistive technologies and who are ready to make accommodations from those things found around the classroom.
How You Can Help
We are currently surveying special education teachers, general education teachers and related services personnel for some creative ideas of how you use everyday materials found in your closets, classrooms, art rooms, and dollar stores to make affordable assistive technologies to help meet the needs of your varying students. We will compile the ideas submitted as part of our presentation, of course will give you credit for your wonderful suggestions.
