Training

Training and technical assistance for the use and implementation of AT devices at home, school, workplace, and in the community is offered through VATS North as a fee for service. Training is available in the use of augmentative communication systems, alternate computer access devices, software programs, adaptive switches, sensory aids, environmental control units, independent living aids, and other AT devices. VATS North does not directly purchase AT devices. The Helen A. Kellar Institute for Human disAbilities, part of the Graduate School of Education at George Mason University, is involved in numerous projects that support assistive and instructional technology, inclusion, and multicultural and early childhood special education. The Assistive Technology Certificate Program is offered through the GMU Graduate School of Education and the Helen A. Kellar Institute for Human disAbilities, with support from VATS North. The Assistive Technology Certificate Program is designed to provide supplemental training to practitioners needing to use AT with individuals who have various disabilities.
