Kellar Institute for Human DisAbilities (KIHd) - College of Education and Human Development - George Mason University
About Us

The Kellar Institute for Human DisAbilities (KIHd) is an interdisciplinary campus-based organization focusing on improving the lives and productivity of children and adults with disabilities. KIHd combines the resources of the university with local, state, regional, national, public, and private sector agencies and organizations to develop products, services, and programs for persons with disabilities.

BRBW is made up of three 3-hour sessions that focus on (1) exploring perspectives relative to the young adult’s disability, (2) strategies for stress management, and (3) young adult self-advocacy and family supportive listening for the transition to life after high school. Family and young adult sessions are conducted simultaneously in separate spaces, concluding with joint activities. Each segment is structured with lessons featuring a Google Slides presentation and a workbook-based interactive activity. Participants also engage in whole and small group discussions, role play, skill practice, and reflective journaling.
