The Kellar Institute for Human DisAbilities (KIHd) is an interdisciplinary campus-based organization focusing on improving the lives and productivity of children and adults with disabilities. What are the admission requirements?More Less
  • Conferred a master’s degree in special education of a related field prior to beginning course work
  • Three years of teaching experience is recommended
  • Official transcripts from graduate and undergraduate institutions
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores that are no more than five years old
  • Goal statement of 750-1000 words indicating why you wish to pursue the PhD in Education degree, how it will enhance your professional goals, your competencies, and any research interests you may have. This goal statement should be specific to your interest in the PRISE program.
  • Complete application, application fee ($75), and current resume
  • As part of your online application, indicate your interest in the PRISE program by adding “PRISE” to the other option of the Applicant Cohort field.

Is there a minimum GRE score requirement for admission?More Less
The Ph.D. in Education admissions committee conducts a holistic review of all components of each candidate's application. The GRE means for those admitted in 2014-15 are 152 or 47th percentile (quantitative), 155 or 68th percentile (verbal) and 4.1 (analytical writing). The admissions committee will also consider additional compelling evidence (e.g., goal statement, publications, etc.,), that supports the candidate’s qualifications.
How many credits are required for the Ph.D. in Education program?More Less
The PRISE program of study in the Ph.D. in Education consists of 81 graduate credits.
Can I transfer graduate credits to the Ph.D. program?More Less
Doctoral students may not transfer in credits to replace the program of study as laid out in this federally funded grant.
I work full time. When are the classes offered? Can I attend part time?More Less
This particular program is a full-time commitment. Program activities will include 20 hours of internship experience per week, collaborative projects, conference travel, and evening classes.
How long does it take to complete the doctoral program?More Less
This is a four-year program.

Visit our online application to fill out the application and upload your required materials. Online applications cannot be submitted without payment of the non-refundable $75 application processing fee.

As part of your online application, indicate your interest in the PRISE program by adding “PRISE” to the other option of the Applicant Cohort field.

If you haven’t already, please create a new account to submit your application.  As of Fall 2018, we have switched over to a new online application system.  If you have previously applied, you will need to create a new login and password for this system, as your old one will not work. 

Within a few days of submitting of your online application, you will receive an email with your Mason G number (G#). This is a tracking number provided to all applicants that allows us to match your supporting documentation to your completed application. If you already have a G#, please include it when you submit your supporting documentation.
